Talking to God like a friend– how can I?

In my previous post, I stated that God is approachable. You can come to God and be yourself. You can use every word available, and you need not be careful of expressing yourself in God’s presence.

How can we do this successfully? The question is like saying how can I be a good friend of God, or at least His “buddy”?

First, you need to try and know Him and His ways. You cannot be a good friend to anyone without knowing them.

The best way to understand God is through His words. Learn His words, and you would have known a good chunk of who God is.

Develop a new habit of talking to Him every time, especially using your mental faculty (mind), is a great thing.

Avoid distraction! We often focus on talking to people at the workplace and different places in our lives and usually give them undivided attention. Give God your heart and mind.

You can avoid distraction by turning distraction to your notepad. Yes, turn distraction to your notepad! Whenever you remember anything or something that tries to catch your attention, write it down while you are talking to God, but never leave the presence of God.

Don’t stop talking to God even if you are distracted. After a while, you would train your mind to focus when you are with God.

Lastly, even if you don’t know what to say, the bible says that the Spirit will help us pray. The Holy Spirit understands God and can communicate with Him clearly than we can. So, He will help our minds say things that our mouth cannot utter.

Sometimes, He will help you speak in different languages called “tongues”

In all, you will know God more when you talk to Him often like a friend.
Give it a try!

Talking to God Like a friend– there are levels

In my last posts, I made it clear that anyone can approach God. Anyone can talk to God at any time. You can use simple words and communicate your minds and feelings to Him.

God listens to every word, and you need not be careful to say what is on your mind when you go to pray.

Remember Hannah when she asked God for Samuel. She prayed passionately, expressing her thoughts and feelings. So, do not forget to tell it all when you pray.

However, there are levels to this approach. Different people approach God in different ways.

Some spend few minutes talking to God, and some spend hours and even days talking to God. God deals with individuals differently.

Moses spent days on the mountain talking to God one on one. Jesus often woke up early before others to pray, and Paul spent days praying, admonishing the believers to keep on praying.

The takeaway from this is that those who spend more time talking to God acquire depths of His understanding and His ways and must be respected and revered. The reason is that they represent God and are often His messengers.

Therefore, I believe it is foolishness to disrepute His messengers and shepherds.

If indeed they are called by God, they’re most likely operating at a different level than you are, and when you disregard them, you are simply saying that God, I disagree with what you are doing.

The way a one-year-old toddler communicates is different from the way a full-grown man does.

There are levels to talking to God.

Signs that you are drifting away

The following are the critical signs that you are drifting away.

— when you develop indifferent attitude to the things you love passionately before.

— when you reduce the amount of time you spend on the things you love to do.

— when other people, like your mentor, warns you but you refuse to listen.

— when there are clear signs that you have abandoned the right lane, yet you insist on your desire.

— when suddenly you fall in love with things that you hate or dislike before.

— when you deliberately choose to do the despicable despite your conscience saying no to such acts.

— when you disobey your devoted calling.

–when you don’t share your secrets with your loved ones as you used to because your thoughts are stained with unpleasant dirt.

–when you won’t let go of pride and you are full of yourself.

— when you suddenly begin to say “it doesn’t matter” to things that usually matter before.

— when you don’t seek counsel.

— when you seek counsel but don’t follow it.

— when you seek counsel and follow it but don’t ask for direction when confused.

— when you say you have lost your interest and you have no passion anymore.

Like a gazelle, run and cry for help before your life falls apart like a pack of cards…or like “things fall apart”.

God’s favor and Men’s favor

You need God’s favor and men’s favor in life for progress and accomplishment.

The bible says, “Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew taller and grew in favor with the Lord and with the people.”
1 Samuel 2:26.

Also, the bible says that Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.
Luke 2:52

Even if God did not screw you up in heaven, men are likely to screw you here on earth.

Therefore, pray for both God’s favor and men’s favor.

How to turn your exhausted life into an excited life 2.0

In the last post, I gave an illustration of how sweet old memories can wake up the sleeping giant in you and revitalize your passion. There is another way you can re-energize your spirit.

Those who wait on God receive strength and power. You can come to God to obtain this strength that you will need in times of weakness.

We may become faint and tired, but God never grows weary.
God’s wisdom is infinite or beyond infinite ( I mean you cannot imagine how smart God is), but man has little understanding.
God’s strength is limitless. He is never exhausted and does not get tired.

When your car is running out of gas, you quickly stop at the nearest station to refill.
It makes logical sense that, when you are tired and weary, you should run to God to be refilled and energized.

Talk to God about your exhaustion and ask Him for what you need to keep the passion. Remember, weaklings, are usually left out of the race.

How to turn your exhausted life into an excited life 1.0

There are several ways you can motivate and wake up the sleeping giant in you, but I have thoughtfully crafted this that I believe is useful for all times.
Refresh your old memories that bring sweet feelings. Although this seems simple, you have to recollect all of the good feelings you had in the past.

Old memories of your accomplishments, successes, and breakthroughs can ignite the fire and resurrect the passion you once had.

Such memories can be a successful pass of a graduate or any school examination, your first job, your first paycheck, etc. Such memories often trigger passion and strong desires that can motivate you and push you towards your goal.

If you have lost the desire to pray, remember how God answered your prayers in the past. Remember how you pray regularly and the results of the prayers. Remember how you were zealous for God. This may likely kindle the fire to wake you up from your slumber.

Recollect your old memories and let them ignite the fire within you by waking up the sleeping giant.

Grace and help for all times

The grace that keeps you standing when you first believe can keep you standing during your crises and tough times. God’s grace is always the same and useful every time and for all situations.

Grace for all times

Remember how committed you were and how excited you were when you first believe. Tap into that same help that grace offers. All you need to gain victory is the same grace and help that was available for you. It was useful in the past; it is very useful now.

He said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” This promise alone can stir the courage and strength you need to keep going.
Today is more challenging than before, and you need the grace to live each day.
Do not lose your confidence in God.
“So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!”

Stay Connected to Your Calling

Stay connected to your calling. Today, in this world we live in, it is easy to lose hope and faint. It is even easier to get deceived with lies. In the quest for searching for the truth, many lose their true calling. It is easy to lose hope in the face of despair, especially when you have lost a dear person or a thing. It is easy to become gullible if you do not have a strong and firm grip on the truth.

Stay connected to God

Jesus Christ said that because sin shall abound, many people’s love for God will grow cold.
Amidst all these possibilities listed above and more, you can stay connected to God and your true calling by holding on to the truth that kept you till the moment you have your first doubt. The same faith that keeps you before can keep you going.
In a simple word, do not give up on your calling.
Stay strong in the faith you once believe and do not let the troubles of this life discourage you.
Faithful is He who saved you, and He can save you to the end if you do not give up. Staying connected to Him will let you appreciate that God will not leave you; neither will He forsake you in your time of need.

Invest In Your Future Today

It is said, “you cannot have your cake and eat it.” once eaten, it’s gone!
The story of the talent resonates this statement. Two of them invested the little they have and gain extra while the last guy did not invest but waste the only coin he had. The result is simple. The two that invested their coins gained extra coins while the last guy did not but lamented all day long.

Invest today; harvest tomorrow.

The extra money you invest today yields extra change for you in the future.
The time you invest in your marriage makes a happy family.
The investment you put into the lives of your kids provides for them a great future.
Education is an investment and the result is a great career.

God gave His Son to redeem us from sin. Now we have a glorious future ahead of us.

To reap a great harvest, you must sow seeds. And do not forget, whatever you sow is what you will reap.

So, I say to you, invest into your life, your marriage, business, children, your knowledge of God and to humanity and expect a great harvest.

Take time to do things that will affect your future positively. Invest today; harvest tomorrow.

Satan has lost his grip

The first thing the believers need to know is that they are a victorious people. This mentality alone will always defeat the enemy. Satan get weary of a Christian who doesn’t give up.

Your authority over the devil is the same authority that Jesus have. You have equal power in His name to defeat all wicked arrows of the enemies.

Therefore, understand that you are fighting from the victory stands. You can never be defeated without you defeating yourself. So, you must defeat yourself for the enemy to be able to defeat you.

Satan has lost all grips over you except those you allow him to have (if any). This mentality will always guarantee you a daily victory. So, even if you fall, if you keep getting back up, your authority and power over your enemies are forever guaranteed. Yes, forever guaranteed!

Do not believe in the devil’s lies. Check it out, we have equal status with Jesus because God adopted us like His Son, Jesus. This is who you are, but you need to know this.

Ephesians 1:18-21 NIV
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, [19] and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength [20] he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, [21] far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

Live daily with this mentality and you will never experience defeat again.
